Thanksgiving Canadian.
Thanksgiving Day in Canada is celebrated on the second Monday in October.
However, this was not always the case. The first Thanksgiving in Canada after Confederation was observed on April 15, 1872 to celebrate the recovery of The Prince of Wales from a serious illness. The Prince would later become King Edward the 7th of England.
For many years following 1872 the date was set by proclamation and the dates changed it seems as per each occasion. In 1931 the second Monday in October was set as the date.
From 1936 to 1956 this was the case. Finally, in 1957 a proclamation was issued fixing permanently the date as the second Monday in October.
Well, well Canadian Thanksgiving really has nothing to do with our harvest at all,
as we have just discovered.
